Upcoming Kadima Green Team Activity
“A Great Lake can hold all the mysteries of an ocean, and then some.” Dan Egan, The Death and Life of the Great Lakes.
The Alliance for the Great Lakes is an organization that coordinates Great Lakes environmental education, advocacy, and beach clean up events. Through their efforts, they have collected over 20 years of beach cleaning data that help scientists and local, state, and national governments to advocate for a healthier environment. To date, their volunteer beach cleanup events have picked up over 9,702,320 pieces of litter, of which 86% is plastic!
As a volunteer at a beach cleanup event, not only does the environment get cleaner (tikkun olam), but the picked up litter provides data for further knowledge, making each volunteer a citizen scientist!
Our next Kadima Green Team Activity is planned for July 11, 2026 at Wilmette Gillson Park Beach from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.
To participate, each individual volunteer must sign up on line at: https://adopt.greatlakes.org/s/cleanupregistration?c__recId=a2oPm0000025Fi1IAE
Volunteer numbers may fill up quickly, so it is a good idea to sign up early to ensure participation.
It is suggested that you bring reusable gloves (not single use plastic ones) and a bucket. You may also want to consider bringing a hand held grasper (easily obtained for a nominal price at a local hardware store, Walmart, or on Amazon.com).
We hope to see you there!
