Green Team Activity on July 11th

Upcoming Kadima Green Team Activity

“A Great Lake can hold all the mysteries of an ocean, and then some.” Dan Egan, The Death and Life of the Great Lakes.

The Alliance for the Great Lakes is an  organization that coordinates Great Lakes environmental education, advocacy, and beach clean up events. Through their efforts, they have collected over 20 years of beach cleaning data that help scientists and local, state, and national governments to advocate for a healthier environment. To date, their volunteer beach cleanup events have picked up over 9,702,320 pieces of litter, of which 86% is plastic!

As a volunteer at a beach cleanup event, not only does the environment get cleaner (tikkun olam), but the picked up litter provides data for further knowledge, making each volunteer a citizen scientist!

Our next Kadima Green Team Activity is planned for July 11, 2026 at Wilmette Gillson Park Beach from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.

To participate, each individual volunteer must sign up on line at: https://adopt.greatlakes.org/s/cleanupregistration?c__recId=a2oPm0000025Fi1IAE

Volunteer numbers may fill up quickly, so it is a good idea to sign up early to ensure participation.

It is suggested that you bring reusable gloves (not single use plastic ones) and a bucket. You may also want to consider bringing a hand held grasper (easily obtained for a nominal price at a local hardware store, Walmart, or on Amazon.com).

We hope to see you there!

Kadima's Green Team for Environmental Action

Jewish Ethics for the Environmnet

Our Social Action Activity on Jewish Ethics and the Environment last Saturday was well received and generated much enthusiasm to get our congregation involved in the environment. Rabbi Oler gave an eloquent introduction to Jewish ethics for the environment and we want to continue that momentum by forming a Social Action Green Team committee at Kadima.

This committee will plan future topics for discussion, education, and provide our congregation with a connection to getting involved with environmental issues and activities. We also have the support for resources via the Green Team with an organization known as Faith In Place.

Faith In Place ( https://www.faithinplace.org/) is a collaboration of houses of worship of all faiths throughout Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin that helps to cultivate environmental justice through connection, education, and advocacy.

We are inviting any of our congregants at Kadima who may be interested in learning and participating in the environment to join Kadima’s Green Team.

You may contact Dr. Randy McCool via the congregation e-mail (office@nrck.org) if you have any questions or are interested in joining our Green Team.
