There have been many accounts of survival during the Holocaust, but very few of a woman’s active heroism-particularly if that woman was a young Jewish Polish girl when she began saving lives of people she did not know. Alicia Appleman-Jurman faced a terrifying and violent world and managed to retain her faith in humanity, in God, and in her people.
The New Reform Congregation Kadima in Deerfield provides a community for people emphasizing spiritual development and personal transformation, while questioning traditional faith. Led by Rabbi David Oler, Kadima emphasizes the study of Jewish ethics and has an active social justice program, religious school and social activities for all ages. People from all backgrounds are most welcome. Kadima is affiliated with the Union for Reform Judaism. Learn more at nrck.org or contact the office at office@nrck.org or (847) 229-9500.
